William Diem began covering the auto industry in Detroit for Automotive News in 1989 when the Detroit auto show became, for the first time, the OICA accredited North American International Auto Show, featuring the launch of the Lexus brand. In 1996 he became managing editor of Automotive News Europe, then based in London. Since 1999 he has been a resident of France, where he was editor in chief of Vehicle News. He is now the principal of his own press agency. He covers European automotive technology and industrial strategy news for Wards Auto in the United States, China Automotive Review in Beijing and for other on-line and print publications.
